The reading on authority control and privacy for this week was really interesting so I wanted to try and find an article or two that either further discussed the ethical issue regarding those in charge of authority control or discussed other possible issues within the topic of authority control. So I was able to find this article that discussed authority control and its drawbacks within the archival community; the issue in this situation being the terminology used with regards to researchers and the documents they are looking through/for and suggests alternative ways overcoming this discrepancy. The article does an excellent job at explaining the problem in a thorough manner and then offering inclusiveness and open access points as a solution. I think it’s important when looking at major topics such as authority control, to try and get a full idea of all drawbacks and benefits; I’ve only found out about this single one but I am sure there are others out there. That being said, I was also able to find another article that lists the importance of authority control.
